Working towards a greener future…Re-use, Recycle and Reduce
Lakeside Steel Corporation has defined numerous waste streams with a goal of recycling where possible and promoting an increased diversion rate from land fill sites. The following are some of the policies that are contained in our Internal Environment Control Manual:
- We have an active downgrade scheme for product that does not meet prime specification
- We recycle 100% of our steel scrap
- We recycle 100% of our mill scale
- We are currently exploring better recycling opportunities for used oil, excess varnish, spent acid and used wood products
- We conduct an annual waste audit and have a year-over-year Continuous Improvement Plan with respect to recycling cardboard, paper, plastics, beverage cans, etc.
- We send out our used florescent light bulbs for recycling
- We participate in the RBRC Program (Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation)
- We offer line pipe for use in conveying alternative fuel products such as Ethanol
- We participate in automotive programs whereby tubing has replaced solids in order to lighten vehicles and improve fuel efficiency
